Background

Michael Joseph Jackson (1958-2009) was an American singer, songwriter, and entertainer widely regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century. His contact information appeared in Jeffrey Epstein's black book with three associated phone numbers, placing him among hundreds of celebrities, politicians, and business figures whose details Epstein collected. Jackson's name surfaces in the DOJ's EFTA document releases in several contexts.

In FBI FD-302 interview transcripts (EFTA00075778, EFTA00269679), a witness recounted that during a visit to Epstein's New York residence, she spoke to Michael Jackson over the telephone. The interviews do not describe Jackson as present at the residence; the witness stated only that she spoke to him by phone while there. A contact list recovered in the EFTA files (EFTA00143524) places Jackson's name alongside figures such as Al Gore, Stephen Hawking, George Lucas, Marvin Minsky, and Peter Listerman.

Wikipedia printouts found in Epstein's files (EFTA00263107) likewise list Jackson among Epstein's known contacts, alongside Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Rupert Murdoch, and others. In the Giuffre v. Maxwell litigation, the plaintiff's unsealing brief (EFTA00075024) cited a 2007 Southern District of New York ruling from Jackson's own legal proceedings as precedent that a public figure's celebrity status does not justify sealing court records.

On December 19, 2025, the Department of Justice published a large batch of unclassified Epstein-related records under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The release included an undated photograph showing Jackson in a suit and dark sunglasses standing next to Epstein, who is dressed casually. The documents contain no allegations of wrongdoing or inappropriate behavior by Jackson in connection with the photograph.

Jackson's former bodyguard Matt Fiddes publicly stated that the photograph was taken during a Palm Beach house-hunting trip around 2002 or 2003, when Jackson was considering relocating to the area to be closer to his friend Barry Gibb. Fiddes said Jackson briefly toured more than 30 properties that week, including Epstein's residence, that the encounter lasted under a minute, and that Jackson had no ongoing relationship with Epstein and never returned to the property. Jackson's Los Angeles County autopsy report (dc-251735) also appears in the case file collection, documenting his June 25, 2009 death from acute propofol intoxication.

He died a decade before the full extent of Epstein's network became public. An email in the EFTA release (EFTA00396350) from a ‘Michael Jackson’ to Epstein assistant Lesley Groff discusses kitchen cabinetry and appliances; this corresponds to a different individual, not the musician. No testimony from any accuser or witness places Jackson at any Epstein property as a participant in abuse.

No flight logs link him to Epstein's aircraft. His presence in the database reflects his appearance in the black book, the FBI witness phone call reference, the recovered contact lists, and the photograph included in the December 2025 DOJ release.
