Background

44th President of the United States (2009-2017). Obama appears in Epstein-related documents only in his capacity as a U.S. Senator from Illinois.

In 2007, then-Senator Obama co-signed a letter with Senator Richard J. Durbin to the French Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding an unrelated diplomatic matter; the letter was found among Epstein's papers. The DOJ's 3.5 million-page release in January and March 2026 contains no verified evidence linking Obama himself to Epstein, his properties, his flights, or his criminal activities.

Obama does not appear in Epstein's flight logs, address book, or any FBI witness interview as a participant. The DOJ's July 2025 assessment concluded no client list existed and found no evidence Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals. Indirect ties to the Obama administration appear in the files.

Kathryn Ruemmler, who served as White House Counsel under Obama and later became a top Goldman Sachs attorney, appeared in a December 2015 email showing Epstein paid for a first-class trip to Europe for her. Her appearance in the files is not evidence of Obama's involvement and reflects Epstein's broad cultivation of institutional contacts. Obama has made no public statement specific to the Epstein files.
