U.S. Senator from Illinois since 1997 and Senate Democratic Whip, who also served as Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Durbin appears in the Epstein files in a documented context: he wrote a letter to the French Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2007, and that letter is included within materials in the Epstein file collection.
Beyond this specific document, Durbin was among the most active members of Congress pressing for disclosure of the Epstein files: he co-signed letters demanding release from the Justice Department, backed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and after its passage continued scrutinizing DOJ compliance. In July 2025, Durbin publicly stated that FBI agents reviewing Epstein files had been instructed to flag any documents that mentioned President Trump, a claim he raised in letters to the Justice Department and FBI requesting explanation. Durbin subsequently joined colleagues in March 2026 calling for a Senate investigation into DOJ handling of the file release.
