Background

American financier and heir to two of the United States' most prominent banking dynasties, the Mellon family of Pittsburgh (Bank of New York Mellon) and the Drexel family of Philadelphia. Born January 28, 1964, Mellon parlayed a $2 million investment in XRP, the cryptocurrency associated with Ripple, into a reported fortune of approximately $1 billion by early 2018. He died on April 16, 2018, in Cancun, Mexico, suffering a fatal heart attack while traveling to a recovery clinic, reportedly after consuming ayahuasca.

His Epstein connection became public in early 2026 when DOJ-released files included an anonymous email to Epstein that named Mellon as appearing in a video recording of an underage victim being abused. The sender was attempting to blackmail Epstein, demanding one Bitcoin in exchange for the recording. Mellon was never charged, indicted, or formally accused of any crime connected to the Epstein network during his lifetime.

The allegation rests solely on the blackmail email and remains unproven.
