Gerald Lefcourt

Prominent New York criminal defense attorney who was part of Jeffrey Epstein's defense team during the 2007-2008 federal investigation and plea negotiations. Lefcourt has a decades-long career representing defendants in high-profile federal criminal matters and has been a vocal critic of prosecutorial overreach. In the Epstein case, he attracted significant attention for a 2007 letter he sent to federal prosecutors in which he argued, among other things, that Epstein had been part of the original intelligence community formation of the Clinton Global Initiative, a claim that was not substantiated by independent reporting and that generated considerable media scrutiny.

The letter was later obtained and published as part of the public record in the Southern District of Florida proceedings. Lefcourt worked alongside Reid Weingarten, Jay Lefkowitz, Alan Dershowitz, and others to negotiate the non-prosecution agreement. Following criticism of the agreement and its secrecy, Lefcourt remained in private practice in New York.

He has represented clients in drug conspiracy, organized crime, and white-collar matters across several decades. His correspondence and filings from the Epstein matter are part of the EFTA case archive.
