Bryan fired Attorney General Denise George on December 31, 2022, four days after she filed a major lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase accusing the bank of facilitating Epstein's sex-trafficking operation.
Bryan said the termination was unrelated to the lawsuit, citing process and communication concerns. An FBI interview memorandum released on January 30, 2026 contains George's account that Bryan pressured her within two weeks of her 2019 appointment regarding Epstein's request for a travel-reporting waiver, with a text message from Bryan reading "you need to make a decision on the Epstein matter." George further alleged Bryan told her she was going after people who are members of our team, and directed her to settle Epstein estate litigation for $80 million, well below the $105 million she ultimately secured. JPMorgan court filings alleged Epstein's companies received approximately $300 million in USVI tax benefits between 1999 and 2018.
